Hailey Bieber was dropping hints the day of the 2019 Met Gala. Hours before hitting the red carpet, the model was snapped in New York wearing a leather jacket and mini dress designed by Alexander Wang who, as it turned out, would be dressing her later that evening. “We wanted to wear Wang to give peeps a little hint before the big night,” says her stylist Maeve Reilly. Bieber didn’t disappoint with the follow-up either. In celebration of all things camp, she slipped into a custom baby pink sequin gown with long sleeves, a mock neck, and a low-cut back that revealed a crystal embellished logo thong. Call it Mrs. Bieber’s version of the naked dress once worn by campy goddesses before her like Cher and Rose McGowan. As Wang told Vogue host Liza Koshy on the red carpet, “we wanted to show the duality of something sweet and demure with a little something naughty and Sєxy in the back.”
Bieber accessorized her provocative dress with “Wang” embellished heels that matched her thong, as well as diamonds from Bulgari. For the hair and makeup, Bieber went with a Barbie-inspired vibe, including a high ponytail constructed by Jen Atkin. “It’s about having fun on your own terms,” Wang added on the carpet. And Bieber chimed in, “everybody has their own idea about what camp is, what is over-the-top for them.” In this newlywed’s world apparently, excess isn’t complete without a little bedazzled party in the back.
