Koenigsegg Announces 2024 Gemera As Its Most Powerful Car Yet

It started with sports cars, before the world’s best automakers moved on to creating supercars and then hypercars. This week, we’ve arrived at the next level in the arena of very, very fast cars with the Koenigsegg Gemera 2024 described as “the world’s first four-seater megacar,” boasting an eye-watering 2,269bhp with the highest spec.

Now, when we took a close look at the Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut last year, we were impressed, but with the announcement of the final specifications of the Gemera, the Jesko’s estimated 531 km/h top speed might be put to shame.

The original powertrain of the Gemera was a 600bhp twin-turbo 2.0-litre three-cylinder engine called the Tiny Friendly Giant (‘TFG’), complemented by three electric motors that enable four-wheel drive and a combined output of 1,700bhp.

As Koenigsegg was developing the transmission for the Gemera, it took things a step further than the design for the Absolut and announced the Light Speed Tourbillon Transmission (‘LSTT’), which offers even better performance than the original Light Speed Transmission (‘LST’). In addition to this, the Swedish marque had created a 39kg Raxial Flux electric motor for the Gemera nicknamed “Dark Matter,” capable of 789bhp by itself.

“Thanks to its new lighter electric propulsion system and optimised use of the TFG’s rev range with the LSTT,” says boss Christian von Koenigsegg, “the Gemera’s acceleration and performance have been significantly improved compared to the previous version that was already extremely well-performing and fast.”

Where things get really crazy, however, is when you realise the Koenigsegg Gemera 2024 has managed to fit an adapted 5.0-litre version of the Jesko’s twin-turbo V8 into its engine block (as an alternative to the three-cylinder TFG). Called the Koenigsegg Gemera HV8, it delivers a total of 1,479bhp, which when paired with the Dark Matter electric motor, combine for an incredible 2,269bhp of rubber-shredding output.

“The Gemera HV8 is not only the most powerful and extreme production car on planet Earth, with an astonishing 1.11hp per kg, but it is also the most practical and user-friendly sports car ever created,” says Koenigsegg. “Its incredible response, handling, engine sound, crisp transmission, spacious interior, and four-wheel-drive systems combine to create an unprecedented and unparalleled driving experience, ready to set numerous records of performance around tracks and in straight lines.”

While there’s no word on the price of the Koenigsegg Gemera 2024 yet (expect a number approaching $10 million), production is expected to commence towards the end of 2024 with deliveries beginning in 2025.
