Actor Robert Downey Jr has faced many ups and downs throughout his career. With 2008’s Iron Man, the actor’s career was revived and he went on to become one of the biggest stars in the world thanks to his work as Tony Stark / Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. After more than 10 years, the actor’s MCU journey finally came to an end as his character sacrificed himself in Avengers: Endgame (2019).

With his time with Marvel wrapped up, fans now wonder what’s next for the star, well, director Chad Stahelski has the answer. The director of the John Wick movies expressed interest in including Downey Jr in his famous John Wick franchise alongside Keanu Reeves.

In April, the director of all four John Wick movies, Chad Stahelski appeared for an interview with The Direct and talked about other Hollywood stars joining the John Wick franchise. During the conversation, Stahelski named actor Robert Downey Jr, indicating that he is interested in working with the actor,
“There’s a lot, I mean, there are so many great people out there, man. If Robert Downey happened to sit in my chair right here, I’d figure that one out. Peter Dinklage, I was a huge fan of his in Game of Thrones. Sean Bean. Some of those guys I think are magical. I’d die for a chance with any of those people.”
Given Downey Jr’s popularity, his appearance in the franchise would certainly uplift the movie, especially if he works alongside Keanu Reeves.

In August 2020, Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer confirmed that a fifth film was also being developed, however, after the release of the fourth film, Stahelski stated that he and Reeves wanted to complete some other projects before the fifth movie. The first spin-off of the John Wick franchise, Ballerina is scheduled to be released on June 7, 2024. The film stars Ana de Armas and is set between the events of John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum (2019) and John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023).
A spin-off and a prequel in the John Wick franchise, The Continental: From the World of John Wick, was a miniseries that premiered on September 22, 2023, on Peacock in the United States, and on Amazon Prime Video internationally. Not much is known about the fifth film in the main series as of now, but Stahelski is certainly excited to direct the next movie.
