Kelce was Mahomes’ top target, catching seven passes for 44 yards and a score, but he was unable to get open and drive the Chiefs offense downfield.

His form is part of a wider Chiefs problem on offense, too. They have scored an NFL-worst 53 points in the second half of games this season, which equates to just over five per game.

Speaking on the latest episode of New Heights with brother Jason, the Eagles center, Kelce told Chiefs fans he knows he’s underperforming and vowed to do everything to turn his form around.

Kelce said: ‘We’ve struggled in the second half of a few different games. I don’t think we’ve put up many points in the second half and it’s been a vocal point.

‘We know this and have definitely been focused on trying to be better and put up points, firstly to help our defense out because they’ve been playing f***ing fantastic.

‘It’s a weird season – seeing some of the big offenses in the league getting held to kind of under 20 points or three scores.

‘Turnovers are killing us, penalties are absolutely killing us. I had one of both (against the Eagles). I had a holding penalty and a drop, fumble. I’m not playing my best football right now and it’s p***ing me off every f***ing time I go out there.

‘But as a unit we’re still together and that’s all that f***ing matters. Nobody is pointing fingers, guys are getting fired up because they want to be successful. I’m one of them but we’re still a tight-knit group and as long as you’ve got that you’ve got a fighting chance.’

When Jason tried to console his brother by telling him the Chiefs’ problems can be easily fixed, Travis replied: ‘We’re 7-3, I feel we still control our destiny with the teams we play in terms of getting the No 1 seed. We’re just going to keep coming to work every day.

‘To Chiefs Kingdom, sorry we didn’t show our best football out there in the second half specifically but you got a lot of guys in that locker room who give a damn and we’ll get it fixed.

‘You’ve just got to have the right mentality coming into work. I could definitely be better as a team-mate on the sidelines, trying to be a leader. Things like that and also being accountable when my number is called.

‘Frustrating game but we did run the ball well in the first half. Majority of the game our running backs were getting downhill, our offensive line played great and that’s a hell of a defense to be able to run the ball.

‘Things like that you’ve got to take away from the game and have some pride with that and keep that training rolling while getting all the other things fixed and corrected.’
