Lighter than the 720S by 30kg, the new car puts out 750 horsepower and 800Nm of torque and does 0-100kph in 2.8 seconds.
McLaren has released its latest lightweight high-performance supercar called the McLaren 750S. McLaren Automotive CEO Michael Leiters said: “When you have a car recognized by so many drivers as a benchmark, to do something even better you have to examine every detail and really push hard for improvements that raise the bar again. This is what we have done with the new 750S.”
The McLaren 750S utilizes a twin-turbocharged V8 engine that delivers 740 HP and 800 Nm of torque. The results of these specs produce 0-62 MPH in 2.8 seconds, 0-124 MPH in 7.2 seconds, and a top speed of 206 MPH. The McLaren 750S is also only 1,277kg, lighter than most of its close competitors in the industry. With carbon fiber material inside and out, the supercar contains racing seats with a new McLaren Control Launcher system that allows consumers to custom-program their preferred combination of aero, handling, powertrain, and transmission settings. The McLaren 750S is available for order.
With its impressive acceleration, razor-sharp handling, lightweight construction and advanced aerodynamics, the McLaren 720S is considered one of the best supercars on the market and a top choice for enthusiasts looking for an exhilarating driving experience. Now, the British supercar maker has upped the ante further with its successor, the lighter, more powerful 750S. The new rear-wheel drive, V8-engined supercar takes all the exceptional attributes of the 720S and builds on them to become the lightest and most powerful series-production car from McLaren.
Like all cars from McLaren, the 750S also bases its performance on the fundamentals of lightweight carbon fibre monocoque construction. With a dry weight of just 1,277kg and a power-to-weight ratio of 579bhp-per-tonne, the 750S is lighter than the 720S by 30kg, and according to McLaren, a good 193kg lighter than its closest competitor. The carmaker has managed to keep the Spider variant’s weight low as well thanks to its carbon fibre upper structure and composite retractable hard top. In fact, the 750S Spider is only 49kg heavier than the fixed-roof version. Apart from these structural elements, the use of racing seats with carbon fibre shells and the wheels that are the lightest ever on a series-production McLaren are among the other features that contribute to weight reduction.
The powertrain has also been tweaked to churn out more power, with the twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine now producing 750 horsepower and 800Nm of torque, and the seven-speed transmission getting revised ratios to optimise acceleration. These changes help propel the 750S from 0-100kph in 2.8 seconds, and 0-200kph in a mere 7.2 seconds. Complementing the enhanced performance credentials is the latest iteration of McLaren’s linked-hydraulic suspension, which features bespoke accumulator tuning, new lightweight springs and dampers and revised geometry. The electro-hydraulic steering setup has been sharpened with a better ratio, while the new track brake upgrade combines ceramic discs and a monobloc calliper with a new booster and vacuum pump. The 750S also features a new vehicle-lift system that can be activated by a single button and raises the front of the car in just four seconds. This is less than half the time the 720S’s lift system took, and faster than in any other McLaren vehicle.
McLaren says the cabin has been designed to make it even more driver-oriented than that of the 720S, thanks to the new column-mounted instrument display and rocker switches that allow suspension and powertrain modes to be changed without taking hands off the steering wheel.
The 750S is available to order now from McLaren retailers across the world.
