Desi girl Priyanka Chopra has been on the top of her game over the past couple of years. She succeeded in making an impressive career in the West, married the love of her life, has a cute little daughter, and recently visited the place, the Met Gala, where her love story with Nick Jonas began.
But, there was a time when she thought her career would be finished before it actually started. This was when she went under the knife and did a procedure on her nose. During her interview with American radio and television personality Howard Stern on his show, the ‘Citadel’ actor shared undergoing the procedure after winning the Miss World 2000 title.
Priyanka said that she felt the need to visit a doctor after she started having trouble breathing. She divulged that the doctor had found a polyp (tissue growth) in her nasal cavity and had suggested surgery.
But sadly during the surgery in London, the doctor accidentally shaved the bridge of her nose and caused it to collapse. This changed how her face looked entirely. Her changed appearance got her fired from three movies and she feared her acting career was ‘over before it started’, she had shared earlier.
But, it was her dad, the late Ashok Chopra, who showed faith in her and asked her to get corrective surgery. Despite her fears, she went ahead with this surgery after her dad assured her that he will stay by her during the procedure.
“This thing happens, and my face looks completely different, and I went into a deep, deep depression. It (her acting career) was over before it started (as she was fired from three different movies after the fact). I was terrified of that, but he (her dad) was like, ‘I will be in the room with you’.”
Despite the blunder, it was director Anil Sharma who gave her another chance with a small role in Priyanka’s first Hindi film ‘Hero: Love Story of a Spy’ opposite Sunny Deol.
“I was supposed to play this lead, and I was shifted to a supporting character. That filmmaker (Anil Sharma) was very kind. He, while the tide was against me, said, ‘It will be a small part, but give it your all.’ And I did,” Hindustan Times quoted her saying.
After seeing PeeCee’s botched nose job, this is how Anil Sharma reacted:
“When I looked at her (three or four months after signing the movie), I burst out angrily and asked her, ‘Where was the need to do all this?’ Mother and daughter got very emotional at this meeting and they explained that she’d had surgery done, it would take six to seven months for the nose to heal. Since she’d been dropped from three or four other films, they were going back to Bareilly and they returned my cheque to me.”
Her botched nose job led to people calling her ‘Plastic Chopra’ and trolling her incessantly. But that didn’t discourage her from working hard, following her dreams, and reaching where she is today. Kudos to you!
